Snippet from Shifter 101 (This isn’t the final way and some bits might change)

I turned a corner to where the sound had come from. The hair on the back of my neck stood up, making me slow my pace. My body ready to shift if I needed to. There was a chill and the smell of magic in the air. The school walls were tainted with so many scents it messed with my sense of smell, but this was different magic than the usual everyday spells. There was something else there that smelled familiar, but it wasn’t clicking into place. Turning a corner, a large object caught my foot and I fell onto the ground.

“What the…” My voice stopped working as I realized it was a person on the ground that had tripped me. I looked up and down the large body. I could tell it was a male by his scent, and he was too old to be a student. My hands twitched as I moved to turn him to see his face. A scream left my mouth before I could stop it. Dirge Aven, one of the new professors, was dead with his neck napped. His eyes looked hollow.

He is dead. He is freaking dead.

“Miss Montague, why are you screaming?” Mr. Rawson asked as he approached from behind me. I scrambled away from the professor.
